Graphene Markets order blotter with New, ToDo, Working and Done states, and the RFS configure view ranking liquidity providers by performance

Overview

Every bank's algos. One recommendation.

Graphene takes all of the algos subscribed to the platform, from the major investment banks and trading firms, and presents the trader with the most optimal way to work their order.

Some orders need speed. Some need the best price. Most need a balance. I joined as the founding Lead UX designer to design the end-to-end experience.

Problem

Brilliant ideas, scattered across spreadsheets.

Algo execution is a highly complex subject. The product's thinking lived in complex Excel spreadsheets full of calculations and illustrations of algo dashboards.

Many senior stakeholders, each an expert in their algo craft, brought strong and sometimes conflicting opinions. Many of them were great ideas. None of them yet added up to one product.

Research & Discovery

Turn the spreadsheets into a shared language.

I worked through the stakeholders' spreadsheets to understand the calculations behind each idea, then brought everyone together to agree what a trader needs to see, and when, to choose with confidence.

That became the backbone of the product: an order's objective, the market conditions around it, and the evidence for each algo and liquidity provider.

Design Approach

From order to outcome in one flow.

Orders move through a clear lifecycle of New, To Do, Working and Done. Each row shows the primary objective, compact liquidity, momentum and volatility signals, a conviction score and the expected cost of RFS against the best algo in basis points.

Algo selection wizardPick an objective such as Arrival Mid or Risk Transfer and see the best route to achieve it.
RFS configureLiquidity providers ranked by hit rate, quote rate and performance, ready to send to the optimiser or a venue.
Trade workingLive fills, passive versus aggressive execution and performance against benchmark while the order runs.
Trade working view with execution chart, passive and aggressive fills, arrival mid and limit lines, and performance against benchmarks
Trade working: every fill plotted against arrival mid and limit, with performance against benchmark updating live.

Rapid Prototyping

Prototype the arguments, not just the screens.

I used Figma and Axure to model the key interactions, so competing ideas could be compared in a working prototype instead of a meeting room. Stakeholders could see their thinking in context and agree on what worked best.

Many experts. Many opinions. One end-to-end experience.

Outcome

A complex idea, made usable.

One end-to-end experienceFrom a new order to algo selection, execution and performance review in a single flow.
